Detroit Man Sentenced in the Homicide of Bashar Kallabat
Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the identification and arrest of Defendant Pickett. It is alleged that the Defendant entered Mr. Kallabat's hotel room, killed him, took the victim's personal property and left the motel.
On June 14, 2022, Pickett was convicted by a jury of Second-Degree Murder which carries a penalty of Life or any term of years in prison. He was originally charged with Felony Murder which carries a penalty of Life in prison without parole.
On July 13,2022, Judge Thomas Hathaway sentenced the defendant to 45 to 60 years for Second-Degree Murder. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor LaDonna Logan prosecuted the case for the Fair Michigan Justice Project (FMJP). FMJP is a collaboration between the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and Fair Michigan Foundation, Inc., headed by President Alanna Maguire. The program assists Michigan law enforcement officers and prosecutors in solving serious crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons.
